I'm sure everyone knows New York gets cold in November. Our room had no working heat!! The old fashioned radiator made such a loud, banging noise that we had to turn it off just to sleep which meant we slept in the cold. I repeatedly asked the front desk to take a look at it, they say they did, but it was never fixed. One guy said that they only turn the heat on when the temperature reaches a certain point. It was in the low 40's that day and that it was cold, his reply was "No, 32 is cold" What kind of answer is that??
The elevators are extremely slow, old and small. And the faucets in the bathroom leak when you turn them on. There also was no fire alarm in the room, just some wires hanging out of the ceiling where the detector should go.
Every day there is someone new at the desk, so you really don't know who works there and who doesn't.
We booked here because of its proximity to Times square, we weren't aware that it's a tourist trap filled with scam artists on every corner shoving garbage in your face. Do yourself a favor and find a different hotel.

My husband and I had a great one night stay at Hotel St. James. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. At the 2.5 star hotel level, that's all you can ask for. The front desk staff was incredibly helpful and courteous (I unfortunately forget his name...) with a late check out and was a great help getting our luggage stored after checkout (It's true that there are paid luggage cabinets, but there is also a single locked room that they'll unlock for you to store your luggage in). The location is great too, in close proximity to Times Square.
Overall, we had a great stay. While it's far from the fanciest hotel we've ever stayed in, we enjoyed our stay because we had realistic expectations of the star level and what the hotel can currently control (customer service, cleanliness) they delivered on.
