The Regina is ideally situated, just a couple minutes walk from Catalunya Square and close to everything, including bus and train lines.
Unfortunately that also meant we were "in the thick of things" during the protests in October that took place right next to us.
The roads were closed, garbage was burned under our window, there were loud bangs, people running amok in the streets and and the overseas press in yellow, luminous PRESS vests hunkered down in the hotel bar.
The staff were wonderful and professional throughout, advising us when not to go out for safety's sake some nights) and when we could happily go out to see the beauty and fun of Barcelona (during the day while the protesters and police were asleep).
Our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The beds were marvellous. Small bottles of complimentary mineral water (perfect for a small bag) were put in our rooms every evening.
We had breakfast in the hotel one morning and it was delicious, plentiful and varied. We arrived five mintes before breakfast was scheduled to end, but no-one hurried us and the person in charge made sure to refill the things that my (big) children found tasty and were taking more of from the buffet.
We were on the street side and on the first floor, but were not bothered by any noise, other than the night that rioting was particulalry intense.
The airconditioning worked well.
One of our rooms had plenty of shelf space as well as hanging space; the other was a bit short of shelf space.
The toiletries and soap provided were very nice.
All of the reception staff were unfailingly courteous and helpful, as were the room staff.
Segundo at the bar deserves a special mention, we all loved him.
You can't go wrong with the Regina.
