This hotel is the best, (in our experience), in Venice. We base this on having visited Venice twice a year, for over twenty years and staying mostly in recommended hotels, (or for longer trips a rented apartment). Our former “best hotel” is located on the Riva degli Schiavoni and costs over twice as much as the Moresco. Yes – the Moresco is that good. Our former “value for money” favourite, (not that far from the Moresco), is very good - but the Moresco beats it on almost every criteria.

You really can trust the glowing reviews from other contributors. From the moment I booked it, to the time we left, it delivered an experience that bettered all my expectations. It has a tasteful Venetian style. Our room was superb and the location was, (for us at least), second to none. It’s not just the easy access from the transport hub of Piazzale Roma, (the most efficient and cost effective way of getting to the city), but within a few minutes, you are in Campo Santa Margherita, (the centre of Venice nightlife), and the area of San Pantalon; rapidly becoming Venice’s foodie hot-spot, (if it isn’t so already).

If you are tired after a hard days sightseeing, or the weather is just a little too inclement to venture out, (especially during winter months), then the bar/library in the Moresco is both cosy and comforting. Good choice of drinks, (to please all tastes), but above all, a staggeringly good complimentary “aperitivo buffet”, laid out during the “happy hour”, (happy ninety minutes to be precise). Here you can also get the lowdown on restaurants, (established or new), from the extremely knowledgeable staff.

Speaking of buffets, breakfast in the Moresco is a triumph of fitting so much choice and quality, into what is a fairly compact space. The breakfast room was never uncomfortable or crowded but like the bar – cosy. The star breakfast item, (for us Brits), was a simply superb cup of tea. My wife and I love a cup of tea in the morning but in almost every Italian hotel, you will get a rubbish tea bag, dumped in hot(ish) water – but not in the Moresco. Superb china teapot, pre-warmed, topped with boiling water and on the side, a top quality tea bag. Your cuppa was then drunk from a matching china cup and saucer. It was so good that it came perilously close to being better than our morning cuppa at home. What a great way to start the day.

Also at breakfast, the problem of slowly desiccating, “under-heated” scrambled eggs is solved by preparing your eggs on request. Whether this service is due to space or quality concerns, the results are simply first class. We are not huge fans of the hot-breakfast, so I can’t comment on the other hot breakfast items.

Service at breakfast mirrored the service we received from every single member of the Moresco staff – which was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble.

In all honesty, there was absolutely nothing I could criticise the Moresco for - but there are a couple of things that others may wish to bear in mind. I mentioned the excellent location, (for most people), but the area in which the hotel sits, may not fulfil everybody’s idea of “romantic” Venice. The Rio dei Tolentini, (or Rio Novo, depending on your map), directly in front of the hotel, is a busy waterway, where you won’t see many gondolas. It’s a more of a working thoroughfare – nevertheless an attractive one. The building on the bank opposite was designed by an architect whose ego must have trumped any desire to build sympathetic to Venetian style. However, a mere five minutes’ walk will bring you to some of the city’s best restaurants, vibrant nightlife and staggering artworks. Last year’s hotel on the Riva degli Schiavoni may have been more “in the centre of things” but you walked out of the front door into chaos, (or water during “acqua alta”). At the Moresco, “tourist Venice” is all within easy reach – but you will always have a calm sanctuary to return to. Or you could double your costs, for double the crowds – it’s up to you.

Finally, I can deliver no higher praise, than we will be returning next year. I just hope that all these positive reviews won’t send the Moresco the way of our favourite restaurant in Venice. Which had no availability for dinner or lunch, (in November!), when I tried to book a month before our trip. In our humble opinion, the Moresco is to Venetian hotels, what that particular restaurant is to Venetian food – the best.

Absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Moresco! The rooms are beautiful and spacious. Windows open to great views. Beautiful bathroom, and a very comfortable bed!! There's a beautiful garden area to enjoy drinks or breakfast, in addition to a cool study themed room as well. All the employees were incredibly courteous and helpful. On the morning we left, we had a very early flight, and they packed us a bag with some breakfast in it for the trip to the airport. I've never had anything like that offered from a hotel. It was amazing!
