Suitable for a Monk

If you're looking for bare-bones minimum and want to deprive yourself of any pleasure then Hotel Maela is for you.
Yes, the location is great, but that's where it ends. Even with the outside temperatures at 86 degrees, we could not manage to keep our room comfortable enough for sleeping. Some guests actually slept with their doors open. One of the rooms had two beds but not a single chair on which to sit. The worst part was the shower area which was loaded with mold and other nasty stuff (see my photos). There were tiny ants around the bathroom sink as well. As for a nice view - don't count on it. You'll need to sleep with your windows open so expect the nearby church bells to awaken you at 6:00 AM.
I frankly don't understand all of the high ratings.

This hotel is very quiet and very nice, and very colorful, rooms are big and bathroom is small but ok and very clean, and balcony is beautiful. 5 mins from main street and 15 mins from main square. Oaxaca is beautiful city and street where is this hotel is full of colors. Great place to stay
