Rothenburg ob der Tauber is considered the jewel in the Castle Road crown. As many of the narrow cobblestone streets in this walled medieval town are impassable, pick a hotel that’s centrally located where you won’t need to drive, like the charming Hotel Goldener Hirsch, just off the market square.

A variety of room sizes and configurations, including connecting suites, make this a good choice for larger families. Rooms have hair dryers, flat-screen TV’s, bathtub/shower combinations and a combination liquid soap/shampoo. There’s also complimentary Internet in the guest rooms. A fabulous complimentary breakfast buffet is provided in a beautiful restaurant overlooking the hills of Rothenburg. The hotel only serves breakfast, but a variety of good restaurants are only a few steps away.

Families will also appreciate the hotel’s game room, with its pool table, backgammon and card table.

Such a great place and location and such poor service…

Awful, unfriendly and exceptionally rude customer service. I would have scored a 0 for customer service if I had the option. The two female persons from the front desk, who were either a manager or the concierge, could not have been more awful to deal with. They are rude, impatient, arrogant and unapologetic.
No WiFi in the annex (which is across from hotel), and WiFi only in the lobby in the main hotel. I’ve booked a triple room with three single beds and I’ve received a double room with an added foldable bed. Room from the annex has no wardrobe of drawers to put clothes and the bathroom was small (only tub and toilet) and the sinks were placed in the room. After I've complained about not having a real triple room, another room was offered in the main building, with separate three singles beds. The car park was 7.50 euros per day and was located on back courtyard of the annex. No kettle, no fridge, no phone, no AC, no Wifi in the room. Not a great breakfast by German standards, with very poor quality and presentation and awful coffee. Would not recommend and will not return.
It is such a shame because with some vision and some more humanity, this could be a very nice hotel in a lovely city. Until then, however, find another place to stay. The location is excellent, but everything in Rotheburg is in walking distance and close to the main square so it's hard to NOT have a good location inside the walls because the town is so small.

A disappointment

Unfriendly service, strange rooms, lack of service and simple things like shampoo - and no WiFi in the annex, and charges for WiFi in the main hotel. Not a great breakfast by German standards, and awful coffee. Would not recommend and will not return.
