Overview
by Courtney Elko
Situated in the heart of Leon, this hotel — the first convent in Leon in 1639 — has been renovated to keep its charm but with modern amenities.
In 1830, the convent became a school. The structure went through a series of ups and downs as a school before becoming abandoned and then being severely damaged during war times. By the 1980s, little was left of the structure. In 1995, the now-hotel owners bought it. With the help of photographs and the people of Leon, the hotel was reconstructed to what it once looked like in the 16th century and opened as a hotel in 2000.
Today, guests are welcomed into a large open center corridor with high ceilings. Artwork, statues and artifacts fill every space that surrounds a beautiful garden and fountain in the center courtyard. The hotel has 32 rooms that are simple and pretty with free Wi-Fi. The onsite restaurant serves a delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the outdoor pool is a great spot for the kids to swim and play. For families seeking a great location with a little bit of history, artwork and architecture, Hotel El Convento is the spot in Leon.

This is one of the best hotels in Leon. It is a refurbished old convent with beautiful grounds. Wlaking distance to the cathedral, restaurants, and shopping. When checking in, ask for a room that is not next to the street. From our room we could hear the evening and early morning rush hour traffic.

The place is a beautiful hide away in busy Leon. The big "garden" is a source of calmness in a hectic city. you can really feel like a monk, The rooms are rather simple, nothing special, but the place is somehow magic anyway. A small pool to cool down is there as well. Great place to stay in style in Leon.
Family Activities
Pool
The outdoor pool is situated in a small courtyard towards the rear of the property. There are a few lounge chairs surrounding the pool and small tables and chairs under a shaded area. The pool is the perfect size for the kids to enjoy a splash. Pool towels are provided and restrooms are situated nearby.
Artwork
There is artwork to be found throughout the hotel and small seating areas in little nooks around every corner. Take some time to admire the antiques, large modern paintings (we particularly loved the famous faces paintings and the giant half-eaten watermelon painting by the pool), statues and sculptures found in different spots around the hotel. Many of the pieces have come from the art gallery just down the street, Museo de Arte Fundacion Ortiz-Gurdian, where you can view even more works of art.
Family Dining
Restaurante El Victoriano
The onsite restaurant is situated in the corridor near the center courtyard and features both seating inside with air conditioning and outside in the beautiful corridor. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant features salmon, beef, pasta and chicken.
