This used to be our favourite london hotel. Excellent location, value for money, clean and modern rooms. However our last visit was just ok, standards have slipped and there was a noticable lack of overal maintenance. The room was clean, but not spotless as it has been in the past.

The air conditioning was not working (one of the reasons we like to use the hotel) and the staff tried to make out it had only just failed, looking at other reviews it appears it hadn't been working for some time.

Also despite selecting an arrival time when we booked, no effort was made to fulfill the request.

We chose this hotel mainly because there weren't many options left available when we planned our trip and because of the price.
We had a street facing room for 7 nights and got a great deal booking directly from the hotel.
Mostly we did enjoy our stay here: the staff were super nice and welcoming (Mike especially!), the room size was decent, it was clean, the terrace was lovely and very convenient for smoking, the restaurant was great, the neighborhood lovely and the transport from the hotel to the center wasn't the hassle we expected (30 mins ~).
However we did encounter some issues: the water in the shower wasn't hot enough, the sink was partially clogged and the air con stopped working mid stay. We told the staff of these issues and after trying to fix them we were compensated for one night.
Also the l'occitane toiletries and the tea and coffee were a very nice touch but they didn't get refilled unless we asked for them (we felt that we were continually complaining or asking for things that at some point we just felt uncomfortable and stopped, I think these things should go without saying).

However, for me these are fairly small issues and, I enjoyed my stay overall and would consider staying there again.
