The lobby of this hotel is what is on the website. As soon as you leave the lobby you are in a different world. The carpet is filthy and glasses and trash are in the hallway. I asked an employee about it and they said, we vacuum each morning. We checked in at 4:00. Which tells me that either they didn't vacuum or it gets filthy while people are leaving and they don't care about the experience of those checking in. In any event, our floor had trash all over the place. Pizza boxes were piled up and were not picked up the next morning when we bolted out. Even our dog wanted to get out of there. Lastly people were smoking close to every exit so the smoke just blew inside. The carpet in the room was not much better. I wore my shoes the whole time.

My wife and I were traveling through Roanoke and stayed at the Holiday Inn. As we were on a lengthy road trip, we arrived around midnight and the gentleman at the desk was very friendly, greeted us, quickly checked us in, directed us to our room, and wished us a pleasant sleep. The check-in experience was actually quite good.
The room, however, had some issues that are quite disturbing - primarily related to the cleanliness of the bed/sheets. One of the pillows had some sort of yellow gunk on it. It was really quite disgusting. The sheets were of even greater concern, as it appeared as if there were small spots of blood. Knowing that sometimes perhaps small stains might not wash out completely, I gave the situation the benefit of the doubt until my wife dropped a few drops of water on the small apparent blood stains and they smeared/spread. If the stains spread that easily with a few drops of water, then it stands to reason that the sheets were not washed - as the water from the wash would have cleaned the stain better. (Pictures are attached to this review of the pillow and the sheets.)
Had my wife and I not already been undressed after a 13+ hour drive, we would have gone to request a new room. Unfortunately, our level of exhaustion was extreme and could barely walk as far as the bathroom. We ended up sleeping on top of the bed comforter (which did not appear stained) and two pillows that we had brought with us.
While the check-in process was excellent, I have serious concerns regarding the cleanliness of the linens - which then makes me question the cleanliness of the remainder of the room/hotel. This is truly one of the most disturbing hotel experiences I've had. I would not return to this hotel.
