I did not know they were renovating this place around the time of the fall hurricane, but had I known, I would have NEVER come there. So many things went wrong and it turned into a nightmare stay. First, we could not even see the main sign from the "circle" highway to find the place. BAD! I hope that has been updated by now. Then, we were sent to room 121. There was no working telephone in the room. The fridge was wide open with towels down like they were defrosting it. The room was not ready for guests. The only reason we stayed was because it was a handicapped room. However, it was difficult to manage my relative with the shower situation. There were no glasses or cups to drink from.
I lost the car keys and was trying to locate them. There was no outside light at the entrance at end of the hall to check out at the parking lot. The front office girl helped me look for the keys which I truly appreciated. She kept trying to help with all the things that were missing or not working but it took a long, long time. I was told there would be breakfast the next morning...
The worst part of the whole experience was going down to breakfast and finding that the person in charge had not purchased any breakfast food. The kitchen looked like it had been abandoned a long, long time ago...We basically had to make toast and put some jelly from a 3/4 eaten jar. I really feel sick every time I think about it. The person in charge said the owner had gone bankrupt and the local workers had to purchase the food from their own pockets. My relative got some hot coffee but I really wish we had just left and eaten somewhere else - my fault.
I do not know what is going on there now, but I will tell you it was a horrible situation for someone driving from out of state, arriving tired after dark. I will NEVER stay there again. I hope for the sake of other customers that things have significantly improved. The company had changed to Plaza Inn & Suites during that time and if it still has that name, you had best avoid this place. No one informed me that this change had occurred. I had no idea we were going to have to deal with this. It was distressing and upsetting. Visitors deserve better.

This hotel is no longer a Holiday Inn Express. They are now operating as "Plaza Inn & Suites." If I were to summarize my stay at this hotel in two words, it would be: "Nothing works." The elevator made terrifying noises, and as another reviewer noted, it's inspection was out of date when I stayed (it expired in November 2017, I stayed in March 2018). The ice machine was broken. The treadmills in the gym were broken. Breakfast consisted of cheap knock-off brand cereal, a few muffins and granola bars. The daily room cleaning service was cursory at best. The front desk lost our group reservation several times before we arrived. They charged different groups traveling for the same event different rates (even though we were all supposed to get the same rate). Don't stay at this hotel if you are expecting Holiday Inn Express standards.
