I recently attended a business event held at the Sheraton in Denver. Out of loyalty to Hilton, I stayed at this property a few blocks away. The stay was fine, but there were a few areas that could be improved. First of all, since I was walking between venues, I suggest the hotel pay closer attention to snow and ice removal. I was told that the City made this the responsibility of each respective business. The sidewalks around the hotel were not fully cleared and, as a result, icy and dangerous. Living in a snowy climate in Chicago, this is not what I have come to expect. Secondly, the front desk area was extremely, uncomfortably cold. Unlike most Hilton Garden Inns, the reception desk was very close to the entrance door and blasted with freezing air every time someone entered or exited. The front desk staff were wearing scarves to stay warm! This is definitely a design flaw considering the climate. Many businesses in Chicago install heaters in their doorways. Lastly, when we arrived, the elevators were broken and had to be operated manually. It was suggested that I walk down the stairs, yet nobody on the hotel floor could tell me where the stairs would let me out, or assure me that the door would be unlocked on the ground floor. As it turned out, the staircase was ice cold and kind of scary to walk through alone, On the positive side, the restaurant service and food were great, as was the check-in experience. My room was clean and comfortable, as well as reasonably priced.
