Overview

This beautiful, old B&B in central Amarillo is one of the nicest accommodations in town. The historic home, built in 1906, is ideal for a family wanting something different from the usual hotel stay. Of the three suites available, you’ll want to book the Classroom Suite, a large and charming room decorated with books, old school desks, chalkboards, and more to generate memories of old school days. It features two queen beds, plus a separate lounge with a flat screen TV. If you’re a family of five or six, you can also book the exclusive Route 66 Room across the hall, which has two twin beds that can convert into a king bed. Breakfast at Heritage House is a huge home-cooked meal served family-style in the downstairs dining room each morning. Any time of day, you’ll find cookies, popcorn, beverages, and other complimentary snacks available to guests. Other amenities of this lovely B&B include free Wi-Fi, ceiling fans, and bath robes.
Heritage House is located in the very heart of Amarillo, in a quiet residential neighborhood called the Plemons Eakle Historic District. You’ll find several parks within a half-mile of the house, but most of the shops and restaurants of the downtown area are over a mile away, so it’s best to drive. Family-friendly attractions are all within a few miles of the B&B, including the Don Harrington Discovery Center and the Wonderland Amusement Park. Kids will love a visit to the Big Ranch Steak Ranch, home of the 72-ounce steak dinner challenge, followed by a half-hour drive south to Palo Duro Canyon State Park and some of the most stunning desert scenery in the state. You’ll get a kick out of returning to the unique Heritage House after a day of sightseeing. The owners go out of their way to make you feel at home. For that, and so many other reasons, the Heritage House B&B is an outstanding choice for your family’s vacation in Amarillo.

We enjoyed our stay at Heritage House in the Classroom with all the lovely artefacts and personal memorabilia from Judy’s teaching career. It was a lovely comfortable place and we enjoyed chatting to Marcus and Judy who are very kind and hospitable. It was so much better than staying in a bland hotel on our travels.
