We visit Mendocino twice each year and stay at the Headlands Inn each time. While we do stay at other properties each trip, we make it a point to end each trip at the Headlands Inn. When we discovered that the inn was to be sold, naturally we were concerned about changes. I am thrilled to report that all the changes are very positive ones!
The same staff remains, even the wonderful housekeepers, and our stay was as special as always. There are new cookie recipes and they are served WARM! They have also added new breakfast items which are outstanding.
John and Ashley are terrific and their little daughter is absolutely adorable.
The gardens are lush and there are new plants and flowers everywhere. The front porch is so colorful and the new chairs are soooooo comfortable.
While the changes are subtle, they enhance the experience. Of course, Kellie and Jeffery do an outstanding job, and they know their guests.
We are returning in December and counting the days!

My husband and I have stayed at dozens of B and B's. We chose this one because of the described charm, the location, and a review I happened to coincidentally come across by a friend of mine who has very high standards. She apparently was there under different ownership.
One of the charms of bed and breakfasts for us is meeting people and engaging with the owners. That didn't happen.
There seems to be a huge lack of attention to details on so many levels. I called ahead of time several times to discuss our food requirements. My husband eats no fruit. Although he got eggs, most days the muffins all had fruit. The day we got French Toast, he didn't get any since the menu had French Toast with fruit..and no effort was made to make him fruitless French Toast..
However, the biggest annoyance was the coffee situation. We are early risers and like our coffee immediately when we wake up. Breakfast wasn't served until 8:45. Although they were willing to bring coffee at 8, that was too late.We were up at 6 every day. We wanted to go on a morning hike before breakfast and wanted our coffee. So every morning except for the last day....we went to Moody's to get coffee. We both really really resent that we had to spend $25 to get coffee and walk over to get it.
Additionally we had a cot in our room due to medical issues that require us to have 2 beds. Both beds were uncomfortable. The permanent bed dipped and was lumpy. The cot was even more uncomfortable. The mattress was totally concave.
