Overview

Harte and Garter Hotel is a quintessentially British experience right in the heart of Windsor. The hotel looks directly onto Windsor Castle and its precincts, as well as Windsor town center. Having been built in the 14th century, Harte and Garter offers an authentic historical charm while having all the comforts and mod cons of modern day life.

There are 98 rooms in the hotel and it’s decorated with almost regal dark wood furnishings, thick carpets and cozy fireplaces. There is a spa in the building with various treatments on offer, and The Tower Brasserie onsite offers a traditional British menu.

Beyond expectations

Location: the best for visiting Windsor Castle and the high street.

Room: clean, spacious, fully functional. Bed is comfortable for a good night sleep. The lighting gives a cozy ambience.

Highly recommended.

So grotty I left after 15 minutes

I travel extensively and this hotel wins the unfortunate title of being the grottiest hotel I have never stayed in. The carpets are threadbare, the wall paper is peeling off the walls, the light switches are sticky, there is masking tape on the lift edge, there are dirty coffee cups lying around and I haven't even got to the bedroom yet. The guest services book is peeling at the seams, I wouldn't actually pick it up for fear of germs. The bed feels like a 20 year old camp bed it had been slept in so many times. I literally walked back to reception, told them I couldn't stay there and left. The only positive was that the gentleman on reception was exceptionally polite.
