Overview
by Amanda Norcross
On one side of HarbourView Inn is Charleston Waterfront Park; on the other, beautifully historic buildings. This boutique hotel couldn’t be better situated in downtown Charleston, steps (or a very short drive) from all there is to see (Rainbow Row and the Pineapple Fountain), do (Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry and the Charleston Farmers Market), and eat (hello, 5Church). Utilize the hotel’s complimentary bikes to explore, or ask the hotel’s exclusive Chief Getaway Officers for local suggestions.
Just know that the best perks of HarbourView Inn are right on the property itself, where you can start your days with complimentary breakfast delivered right to your room, and end them with complimentary wine and cheese and/or freshly baked cookies and milk.

Very nice hotel within walking distant of nice restaurants and the market place. The rooms were great and the beds very comfortable. Rooftop bar is a great place to end your night with a drink and talking to other guests. Breakfast delivered to your room and the wine and cheese happy hour is a very nice touch. The gentleman who ran the wine and cheese was the best!! Always made sure your glass was full.
On the downside, the gentleman at the front desk was unfriendly and not helpful at all while we tried to ask some questions about the town and restaurants. No one else was there at the time so it wasn't like he was busy. When we checked in we went to put water and some soda in the mini fridge. There was pizza and other food left over from the night before we had to clean up ourselves. They don't have a bar but set up a portable one at night time so you can have a drink. Both nights we came back and had a drink and charged it to the room. We tipped the bartender in cash. On our final statement found out we were charged a gratuity from the bar both nights. No one ever informed us of that. $11 total besides tipping the bartender $15 in cash. We now ended up paying $26 in tips for 4 drinks. It's not about the money but just annoying to have that happen.

We stayed at the Harbourview on our first trip to Charleston. The location is perfect-we could walk to all the great restaurants and shopping in the downtown area. The hotel staff are warm and genuine, and the amenities like daily breakfast delivery, wine and cheese hour and warm cookies at bedtime were wonderful additions. We would walk down the pier across the street and enjoy the saxophone player before our return. The rooftop bar is another plus-great place to stay!

The Best Time to Visit
Visit in the fall, early winter (Charleston is especially festive in December) or spring to enjoy the best weather. Note that the fall and hurricane season have the potential of bad weather since Charleston is on the coast. (Case in point: Hurricane Dorian brought heavy rains and wind to the area in 2019).
Getting There
The hotel is approximately 20 minutes from Charleston International Airport.
Getting Around
You can easily get around Charleston by foot, with or without a stroller. But if you plan to explore the area outside of Charleston—perhaps Folly Beach or Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms—you'll want your own vehicle. Parking at the HarbourView Inn is valet only for a nightly fee of $30.
For Parents
You don't have to go far for adults-only treats. Take advantage of the complimentary evening receptions (hosted daily), where wine and cheese are served. Enjoy your food and wine in the reception area, lobby lounge or—when the weather permits—the rooftop lounge. Speaking of the rooftop lounge, the hotel also offers rooftop skyline "tours" from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays, providing guests with a nice overview of Charleston. Other offerings include local beer tastings and live music from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and wine tastings from 5 to 6 p.m. on Fridays. Oh, and did we mention you'll receive a complimentary cocktail upon check-in?
