I was only in Newark for a short time before flying out again so I wanted an airport close to the hotel. This worked perfectly with a free airport shuttle. It was relatively quiet with a large room and very comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. I appreciated some of the smaller touches, like the movable writing surface near the chair. The gym was just fine for a run on the treadmill. The free wi-fi worked well.
My only complaints were that breakfast didn't open until after I left for the airport and one of the two elevators was being repaired so I took the stairs most of the time.

Having travelled for two weeks across Latin America I stayed in 6 different Hilton properties and had a stellar experience with each and every stay. On the final leg of my journey I had a connection in Newark Airport so picked Hampton Inn to have some rest after a long overnight sleepless night. Making a booking for the hotel I have purposely stated that we are arriving in the morning and will only be using a room for about 7 hours before taking the next flight.
When I tried to check in and explained the whole situation the lady on the reception desk said they have the room ready but I have to pay 50$ early check in charge. I have pointed out again that I will only be using the room for 7 hours and that I have not slept all night. I am also a Diamond member with Hilton. Showing no sympathy the lady just offered to keep our bags and told us to wait till 1 pm earliest for check in. Considering this is an Airport hotel this kind of inflexibility is just unacceptable. I have never been turned away for early check in or late check out if the room was available. This is just shocking that the hotel manager who was on the desk that day was interested in just the profit and obviously not a customer satisfaction.
I hope Hilton will strip this hotel of the brand as they clearly do not deserve this fantastic reliable brand.
