The Tutwiler is a storied hotel that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, having opened in 1914. Located in Birmingham, Alabama, the hotel has hosted many famous guests, and today’s guests can learn about the hotel’s history through photography and other artifacts in the lobby. While the hotel has been updated, its furnishings and décor are modeled after the original property.
Now owned by Hampton Inn & Suites, the hotel provides complimentary breakfast, a fitness center and free Wi-Fi. Complimentary shuttle services to the airport are also provided. Each guestroom has a mini-fridge, microwave and coffeemaker, and cribs and cots are available. It’s a fantastic family hotel and a history lesson, combined in one.
Check-in time is 4 p.m.; check-out is 11 a.m. Self-parking is not available, but valet parking is provided for about $25 per day.

Room smelled of sewage-called front desk to request move & guy laughed-said others also complain. Said it was exhaust fan closed on roof! Housekeeper came and gagged. Finally moved me to new filthy room-AVOID!

Staff, location, service, quality and amenities were all excellent. I do recommend this location and will return when the opportunity presents itself. I was very pleased with the staff and the room accommodations.
