Families looking for a historic Tucson experience and classic Southwest vibe will enjoy a stay at the Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort. Built in 1929, the resort has classic Tucson charm. It’s great for a tranquil retreat. Families looking for a desert retreat escape will find it here. There is no kids’ club or special activities for kids, so this might be more well suited for families with older children. Kids will love time at the pool, a walk through the botanical gardens, or even horseback riding. The hotel is only a few miles away from numerous upscale shops and some of the best hiking spots in Tucson.

Celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary with 5 nights here, and we enjoyed it very much. Not quite 5 stars which I will explain briefly later.
This is a meticulously landscaped property, which is well cared for. Some of the cacti and succulents throughout the property are just stunning. Staff was overall polite and there when you needed them. We were in one of the older rooms on the pathway down to the riding stables, and it was rustic and functional, but a bit cramped for a 5 night stay. Can't say enough good things about outdoor dining at the patio grill, the less formal of the 2 dining options. Excellent service and food, in a lovely setting with live music on most nights. And the choice of 2 pools was a nice bonus, both relatively uncrowded and perfect for an after dinner evening swim.
What prevents me from giving that 5th star? We did find the housekeeping service a bit uneven, as on some days they did not replenish our bottled water, or leave us clean wine glasses. And as we were celebrating an anniversary on this trip, after reading some previous reviews when couples on their anniversaries received room upgrades to the newer suites, we unfortunately did not. I understand that could have been a function of how crowded they were, but to my eye they were not fully booked any night during our stay. And we would have appreciated just a little something extra upon check in, be it a box of chocolates or bottle of wine, in recognition of our special anniversary trip. But alas we did not.

We had very recently a superb evening meal, service, and sunset view at the Hacienda del Sol. One also has the option of spending the night at their resort which we also strongly endorse. Meals there can be pricey but I opine well worth it. Special unique meals are readily available plus many special items on their varied menu to choose easily. The staff is extremely supportive and informative without being overbearing or intrusive. A visitor can get great useful information from the staff in a noncondesending manner. The drink and dessert options are simply wonderful and marvelous. We had an excellent time and celebrated well a special occasion for us.
