Located 15 miles west of Winthrop in tiny Mazama, the lodge-style Freestone Inn offers 36 units — lodge rooms, cabins or two multi-bedroom houses. Jack’s Hut serves as the inn’s hub. A recreation center and shop, the Hut features boutique clothing, snacks, beverages, a daily happy hour, daily kids’ movies, bike rentals and information on outdoor activities.
The lodge rooms come in studio rooms with a single king or two doubles, as well as one- and two-bedroom suites with king beds and sofa beds. The two-bedroom suites feature a fully equipped kitchen and two king beds. Rooms also feature a mini-fridge. Wi-Fi is available in the main part of the lodge. The 15 rustic cabins include kitchens, cookware, dishwashers (except the studio cabins) and gas fireplaces. The lodge’s full-service restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other amenities include a seasonal outdoor pool and a year-round hot tub that overlooks the lake.

I called on a Thursday to inquire if they ever make exceptions for the 2 night minimum on weekends. The front desk agent was super friendly and explained that it depends on a few factors, but indeed they were able to get me in for on night the next night. When I balked at the price ($241) she put me on hold and came back with a lower price since it's the end of the high season. So awesome!
I have stayed at the Freestone before - the last time was in a cabin since I had my canine companion. The cabin was great - but the room (#9) I got at the inn this time was amazing! It's spacious with high ceilings, great bathroom, super comfy bed, deck with adirondack chairs, and a fireplace. I was a little bummed the restaurant was closed for a private event, but the pizza at Jack's Hut was surprisingly good. The hot tub is great, customer service superb, and the complimentary breakfast is excellent (make your own waffle station ftw!).
The Freestone is a warm and inviting respite - a perfect place to treat yourself after a long day of adventuring in the North Cascades.

Booked this as a stopover on the way to the coast, what a fabulous stay. Staff were fabulous and room large, clean and very comfortable. They even had a fishing rod for guests to borrow. The only downside was the restaurant was closed on Sunday night but we had excellent pizza at jacks hut across the car park
