I REALLY wanted to give this place a good review. Overall, location is nice and hotel is relatively quiet. We dined in the bar and ordered a simple pizza...the order was wrong and had to be sent back. Being from out of the area, I noticed a beer on tap I had never heard of so I asked the bartender about it and he said he didn’t know anything about it. Turns out, it was a local brew from Bar Harbor. I found this out thanks to Google. How do you not know what you’re serving?? You have ONE job...KNOW YOUR BAR!! Now on to the absolutely most disgusting thing I’ve witnessed thus far (keep in mind I stay in hotels 60+ night a year)...the bathroom. Granted it’s October, but I sure as heck didn’t sign up for this horror room...PUBIC HAIRS....ALL OVER THE BATHROOM! Again, for the cleaning staff, you have ONE job...CLEAN THE ROOMS!! ????

My husband and I traveled a long distance and were very tired. We called around and found most hotels were booked. Hyatt Portland referred Fireside Hotel to us. We checked into our room and started to unpack when we noticed a dirty sock on the floor. Further investigation led us to a dirty bathroom, dirty beds and dirty floor.
I called the front desk and was given what I was told a "manager". The person on the phone was extremely rude. I asked her to either give us a new room, give us a discount and clean our existing room or give us our money back. She said I can't do either. She told me that they had problems with cleaning staff. I told her that wasn't my problem and we needed compensated for the hassle. She said no and hung up on me. My husband and I packed our bags placed everything in the car and went to the front desk to demand our money and called the cops and asked them to please stand by. My husband spoke to the so called "manager". She refused to give us our money back and acted like the most unprofessional person I have ever encountered in a business. She finally gave us our money back and we went across the street to the super clean super 8 with wonderful professional staff. Evidentially fireside is owned by Hyatt. I wonder if they know what a mess this place is. The next day I called the General manager "Peter" and he never returned my call. So word to the wise "Stay Clear". This place is nasty.
