Overview
by Courtney Elko
While this may be a beer-themed hotel (Dogfish Head Brewery is located about 20 minutes away), it is certainly family-friendly with plenty of lawn games, a fire pit, paddleboards and bicycles — all available for guests and free of charge.
Located in downtown Lewes, the hotel doesn’t have a pool, but the beach is a short walk or bike ride away. The exterior of the pet-friendly inn may appear as if it’s your average beach motel, but once inside, guests quickly realize the “cool” factor to this inn with its platform beds, open closets and futon couches. Free Wi-Fi and free parking are also ideal for kids and parents.
There are no onsite restaurants and breakfast is not provided, however, there are several delicious restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner only a few steps away from the inn.

Room Information
Find the Best Price for Your Stay
The 15 guestrooms and one suite all have an exterior entrance. The furniture and artwork inside each guestroom was handmade for the inn specifically.
Cribs and rollaway beds are available for a fee and there are no connecting rooms.
Guestrooms
The spacious, open concept guestrooms give guests a cool vibe right away. The one king or two double beds are situated on top of a platform. There is a futon couch, which is not a pullout, with a coffee table in front of it. The outrack closest is open to the room and there is a mini-fridge. The bathroom sink is open to the room and situated between the two separate and enclosed areas for the toilet and stand-up shower.
Sweet
Located above the lobby, the large two-bedroom suite (or Sweet as the Dogfish Inn calls it) features its own separate entrance by the lawn area. Once guests climb the short flight of stairs, they will find two bedrooms, each with a king bed, and separate living room area with a large kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, dishwasher, mini-fridge and a microwave. A futon couch and small dining table for two is also featured in the living room. There is one bathroom with a stand-up shower.
Family Activities
Lawn Games, Fire Pit and Lobby
Guests will find fun games like corn hole, ladder golf and can jam, free to use in the lawn area situated between the detached lobby and the guestroom building. There is a large picnic table outside and a fire pit is also lit at night in this area. A few comfy chairs surround the fire pit -- ask at the front desk for S'mores fixings!
Board games, cards and a giant magnet board hanging on the wall can also be found in the modern-style, open and chill lobby. The lobby is detached from the rest of the inn. There is a large table, perfect for playing games on, and a couch in front of a fireplace. The lobby is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Recreation
Paddleboards and six bicycles (no kids' bikes) are available for guest use at no cost.
Beach
Lewes beach is about a quarter mile away from the inn and families can walk, bike or drive to the beach. Families will need to cross over a drawbridge, with a pedestrian lane, to reach the beach. There is a large parking lot at the beach, but there is a fee for parking. Lewes beach is situated on the Delaware Bay so the waters are calm. But if your family is looking for more waves, try the Cape Henlopen State Park, also nearby and where the ocean meets the bay. There, families will find the Atlantic Ocean or the Delaware Bay. Families can bike or drive to Cape Henlopen from Dogfish Inn, but it is further away than Lewes beach. There is a fee to enter the state park, but parking is free.
Two beach chairs and a small beach bag are provided in each guestroom at no cost for guest use. However, they are also for sale (and you will need to pay for them if you accidentally take one home).
Family Dining
Lobby Kitchenette
While there are no onsite restaurants and the inn does not offer breakfast, there is a large kitchenette for guest use in the lobby. Guests will find a mini-fridge, microwave, espresso and coffee machine in the lobby kitchenette, along with plenty of dish and glassware.

Getting There
Lewes, Delaware is located less than an hour south of Dover, Delaware and about 20 minutes north of Rehoboth and Dewey beaches. The Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport, located in Maryland, is about an hour from Lewes and offers connecting flights from Philadelphia or Baltimore. Philadelphia International Airport and Baltimore-Washington International Airport are both about two hours away from Lewes.
Getting Around
Bicycling is big in Lewes, Delaware, so kids will love riding around town. The beach and downtown Lewes are few a blocks' walk (in opposite directions) from the Inn and a stroller is recommended. Families will have to walk over a drawbridge to reach the beach, but there is a pedestrian walkway. A vehicle is needed to venture much further from the inn.
For Mom and Dad
Beer Growler
Each guestroom comes equipped with an empty beer growler (sadly) but guests are welcome to have it filled for a fee.
Brewery Tours
The Inn will organize a tour of the Dogfish Brewery in Milton, Delaware, which is about 20 minutes away. The tour is kid-friendly, but transportation is not provided. Dogfish Pub and Chesapeake & Maine (both serving Dogfish beer) are located a short drive away in Rehoboth Beach, too.
