The location is good, not too close to noisy highways or airports. Service was good. Breakfast was wonderful. They had hot and cold options: cereal, cinnamon rolls, waffles, scrambled eggs, french toast sticks, sausage, juice, coffee, toast, yogurt. The rooms were nice. My family had adjoining rooms, which was helpful. The carpet in one room was pretty stained up and could have used a good cleaning, but the rest of the room was clean. The only thing we would have preferred is a nightlight in the bathroom, and a bar to hang the hand towels on.

We were staying for a conference being held nearby. I paid cash for our rooms and asked for a receipt at the time of payment. I was told they cannot give me a receipt until the morning. I had to give my debit card for possible damages excetera that could incur during our stay, I asked numerous times " you are not going to charge my card in the morning for our rooms, correct?" I was assured they would not charge my card for our rooms that I had just paid cash for. In the morning the "receipt" was under the door & my card had been charged for one of the rooms, one cash payment had been posted. When I went to the desk to fix the situation the desk clerk did not know how to refund to my card, she tried but with no success. I was given a card with the assistant manager's name and told to call them to get the situation fixed. When I ended up talking to the assistant manager I was told that my card was charged twice. The initial charge and then when the desk clerk had tried to "refund" the card she actually charged my card. I was told it would take to to 14 business days for the refunds to show up. My husband ended up calling the assistant manager and asking what they were going to do to make this right, her response was there was nothing they could do, we would just have to wait for the refunds. Our bank had put a hold on our card & when my husband checked the account we had actually been charged almost $400 in addition to the over $200 cash I paid initially for 2 rooms. We are still waiting for all the refunds, we have received partial at this point(the full 14 days has not passed yet).
We also had a problem with breakfast in the morning. There was a conference being held nearby that we were attending as well as other numerous guests. By the time we got down to breakfast around 8:15 almost everything was empty. The waffle machine, sausage, eggs, hot water for tea and the oatmeal was very near empty with no toppings left. The hotel knew how many guess would be staying that particular weekend, they had not staffed properly for the amount of guests staying. When I knocked on the kitchen door to ask if they would be refilling anyting, the kitchen staff replied that she didnt know it was empty. There were SO MANY guests eating at that time, probably at least 30. Overall I believe this was poor management, the staff(that was new) had not been properly trained & there was no management on staff to help them as well as not enough staff present for breakfast.

The Art of Smart Timing
It's always a great time to visit the Illinois state capital, but when children are off from school for spring break or in the summer, more tourists are in town.
Getting There
The St. Louis International Airport is about an hour and half from the Country Inn and Chicago O'Hare International Airport is about three hours. Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington is about a little more than an hour and Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is about 20 minutes away.
Getting Around
Renting a car would be ideal when staying at the Country Inn & Suites. Several restaurants surround the hotel and families could walk to them, but driving would be a better idea. Many of the Springfield things to do are within a short drive, too, and there is a gas station just steps away from the hotel.
For Mom and Dad
Parents will love to relax by the fireplace in the comfortable lobby.
