My stay at the Vanderbilt was not very pleasant. The room was dirty, room floor was sticky, window was so dirty that you could barely see the beach. I complained windows were dirty and management did nothing. Furthermore, they overcharged my account after I did the checkout. I would not recommend staying at this property. On a positive note, the lobby and main pool area are clean and well kept. Aside from that, I highly question the 5 stars hotel status.

The major water main break that occurred in San Juan forced us out of our apartment in the old city, and the staff at the Vanderbilt made all the difference between a busted weekend and a glorious one. We booked two rooms last minute and our transition from worst to first was complete. The place is magnificent and the staff welcomed us and assuaged our angst with a welcome champagne and lots of smiles. Andre, one of the front of house staff, could not have been more helpful and accommodating. I think someday he will be in the Customer Service Hall of Fame.
If you are in San Juan, or anywhere in PR for that matter, stop in, take a look and have a cocktail on the ocean at Tacos and Tequila or in the Ola Cafe. You will not be disappointed.
