We originally had a different hotel booked, but upon finding the "last minute getaway" deal the Commonwealth was offering, we changed our reservation. I'm glad we did! It was a great stay - friendly staff, spacious room (even though we were in the "comfy" king), very comfortable bed & pillows, and clean & modern bathroom. We ate dinner at Reuger's. It was good and the server/bartender was very friendly.
I wish the Commonwealth would reconsider having guests pay for parking. The additional $25 feels like a burn given we're only in Richmond.

The Commonwealth's room was one of the nicest we've stayed at in a while. We booked the Marshall room (suite?) on the second floor and it was enormous. Frig included, with little freezer, too. Since breakfast is not included, we shopped the 7-11 around the corner and had food in the room. This hotel sits right at the foot of the Capital and its park. We didn't have a car, walked to all the sites we needed, and even took the 7 bus to the airport (an admittedly slow process, but direct). The immediate area is kind of dead at night.
We ate 3 dinners at the hotel restaurant, since we didn't feel like wandering around looking for other places. After the first dinner, we just kept going back. The meals were terrific; I had about the best burger ever, cooked slowly and not burnt or raw inside like a lot of places. Roger, the manager/chef, does a great job, and Jackie, our waitress, was delightful too.
