I checked into the the hotel and they asked for my Driver's License. Reasonable request for checking against my Credit Card. No Problem. The front desk person then proceeded to photcopy my driver's license without asking my permission. I told them I wanted the copy of my drivers license back and they could not do that. The front desk person then proceeded to tell me they WOULD NOT allow me to check in if I did not allow them to copy my ID. I asked to speak to their boss and I was placed on a call with a man who was apaprently the owner. He told me that was his policy, not a choice hotel policy, that Choice Hotels does not own his hotel he does. He told me if I didnt want to let them keep my drivers license photocopy on file that I did not have to stay there and they would refund my money. Horrible way to treat a Choice Hotel GOLD Member and the tone he used, he could have not cared less whether I stayed or not. With a family in tow on a hoilday weekend there was nowhere else to go, so I stayed BUT WILL NEVER RETURN.
There are plenty of places to stay in Charlotte. I will say it is in a somewhat shady part of town and I felt I had to take everything into the hotel room from my car.
I have never had to leave a photoocopy of my ID any hotel to stay there, and have never been treated like that from a hotel manager/owner. With the rash of ID theft these days, they could be more considerate of that risk for their patrons.
I am expecting some canned statement from the hotel about why they do it, or we are so sad you did not enjoy your stay and we are looking at this or that process. Don't buy it, they had no trouble whatsoever, talking to me like they didn't need me to stay there or value me as a customer. So if you read a canned response and still want to stay there, be ready to HAVE YOUR ID COPIED and KEPT ON FILE.
In case anyone is wondering, I got a copy of my ID back when I checked out. I hope they only made 1.

My company truck broke down in Charlotte & while my company did foot the bill, was having difficulty finding another truck for me in a timely manner. All the staff was extremely helpful & simpathetic to my dilema & went above and beyond their normal duties to make my stay as pleasent as posible. I would especially like to commend Ms. Alexander, Dir of Sales, for her kindness & care of this simple trucker who helped me find alternative travel back home to NYC and even helped me with my bags!! I have never experienced in ANY hotel, especially office staff, going out their way to help one of their guest. I highly recommend this hotel not only for the clean, comfortable rooms but also for the inviting staff eager to help their guest regardless of status!
