With prime beachfront property on Sanibel, a century-old tradition of hospitality and arguably the best swimming pool in the region, there’s a lot to like about Casa Ybel. All 114 one- and two-bedroom suites come with full kitchens and barbecue grills just outside. There’s also a Kids Club for ages 3 to 12, tennis courts, sailing, kayaking and, this being Sanibel, shell-seeking.

The website looks very updated and modern so I assumed the resort would match. It does not. It’s very outdated. On the way to our room we noticed a loose board on the steps which was very dangerous. I do have to say when we reported it they fixed it quickly. When we reserved the room we also reserved 2 beach chairs with an umbrella. When we inquired on how to get that the woman in charge of having the chairs set up argued with me that I did not reserve them. Even after I showed her the confirmation email she insisted that I could not have reserved them or she would have known. She allowed us to reserve them again (lol) but then no one showed up to set the chairs up. We waited in the sun for an hour, calling the office but couldn’t get an answer (keep in mind this is the off season so they were not busy) until finally someone answered and sent a man to set them up. We ate at the restaurant on site. It was very pricey for “ok” food and it was very hot in the restaurant. None of the staff was welcoming. There was one woman at the pool café where we had lunch that was friendly and made us feel appreciated as guests but that was it. I normally don’t give bad reviews but I really wanted this to be a nice get away and with all of the options on where to stay this was a huge disappointment.

Nothing great about this property. We received a very bad attitude from a receptionist when we arrived. I made sure she knew we did not appreciate her customers service. They call this condominium a “Resort”, but is not such so: 1 restaurant, no shop or grocery shop on site, no service other than daily cleaning. To even more disappointment, we couldn’t use the beach because if the red algae/tide, smell very bad, dead fishes everywhere, merry waters, no shells. Literally, is a TIMESHARE facility and not the best. We are not going back.
