Overview

Canaan Valley Resort is a mountain resort in Davis, West Virginia, that invites families to enjoy outdoor activities year-round. The 150 guestrooms, suites, cabins and cottages feature king and double beds, fireplaces, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Some accommodations are also pet-friendly, with a limit of two pets per room, at $40 per pet for one night, and $5 per pet for each additional night.

For summer fun, families can enjoy hiking, biking, a scenic ski lift ride (yes, during the summer!), an outdoor pool with a slide, geocaching, a climbing wall, tubing, basketball, volleyball and more. Scheduled activities often include crafts, kite-making, guided nature walks and wagon rides. For winter fun, families can splash in the indoor heated pool or hit the slopes at the nearby mountain for skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Year-round fun can also be had at the onsite arcade, which is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Onsite dining consists of three options at the main lodge and two at the ski area. Hickory Dining Room serves up breakfast and dinner daily at the main lodge from 8 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m., respectively. For breakfast, lunch and dinner, families can also stop by the Seasons Cafe at the main lodge, open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. And for dinner, head to the Laurel Lounge, open daily from 5 to 11 p.m., and from 2 to 11 p.m. on weekends. At the ski lodge, the Bear Paw Food Court serves lunch and dinner, while the Quenchers Pub serves sandwiches and snacks, along with cocktails and beer. Both are open seasonally, December through March.

Additional perks at this property include spa services, a fitness club, shopping and free parking. Check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out is at noon.

Great place to hold a training!

This was my 3rd time conducting a training at CVR. I can’t say enough about how well all the trainings have gone thanks to the staff at Canaan. The property is beautiful, so comfortable, great food and wonderful staff. One of these days I’ll get to go just for fun!

Perfect Couples Getaway

My husband and I got away for a weekend of hiking and relaxing in WV. Canaan Valley Resort was the perfect home base for our exploring - especially when the weather wasn't cooperating! Our room was clean and spacious (we had a Junior Suite), and the bed was very comfortable. We ate in the Hickory Dining Room on several occasions and the food was always great (my Grilled Atlantic Salmon was seriously delicious!). The staff, both in the restaurant and in the lodge, were very friendly/accommodating. We felt right at home and, while we did get out for some spectacular hiking (Dolly Sods is MUST), we also thoroughly enjoyed a drizzly morning by the fireplace in the lobby (games and puzzles provided) and could have easily lingered around the resort longer. The setting, the atmosphere, and the staff were so inviting. Overall a wonderful getaway!
