Overview

The history of this hotel is long (as is the case at many hotels in New Orleans), but it goes something like this:

It opened as the the New Orleans Ballroom and Theater in 1806 before burning down shortly thereafter. The theater was rebuilt, but burned yet again. When it finally reopened in 1817, the grand ballroom played host to the city’s quadroon balls, where the moneyed gentry of New Orleans came to court Creole women. In 1836, the building switched hands, becoming a convent and remaining as such until it was purchased as a hotel in 1964.

The ballroom has since been restored, and remains the most historic ballroom in New Orleans. Be sure to take a peak at it when you visit. The hotel itself is also quite grand, offering well-appointed rooms (though they only sleep a maximum of four guests), onsite dining, and a swimming pool.

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel is located in the French Quarter, between famous Jackson Square, where you’ll find St. Louis Cathedral, and infamous Bourbon Street, where there’s always a party. Hotel staff like to say the hotel is located between the saints and the sinners — pick your pleasure!

Bourbon Orleans Hotel has 219 elegant rooms and suites, all of which were updated in 2012. Guestrooms feature exposed, white brick walls and a warm color palette of red, black, tan and forest green in décor and furnishings.

All guestrooms feature complimentary bottled water (replenished daily), mini-fridges (empty) and coffeemakers, in addition to standard amenities -- hairdryers, safes, and the like.

Rooms can accommodate a maximum of four guests, but will prove to be a challenge for large groups. Rollaway beds are not available, and there is a limited selection of cribs. Connecting rooms aren't available either.

Note: Room rates are based on single or double occupancy, and there is a charge of $75 per person, per night for each additional guest.

Guestrooms
The hotel's guestrooms have one king bed or two queens, sleeping a maximum of four guests.

French Quarter Suites
The hotel's suites are two levels, with separate entrances on separate floors. On the top floor, a king bed is situated in a loft, along with a full bathroom. On the bottom floor is a living room with a sofa bed. This is an excellent option for families of four, ensuring parents and kids have privacy.

Beautiful hotel to host a wedding. The staff was wonderful and exceptionally friendly. The location of the hotel is within walking distance to all the sights and restaurants. I could not have asked for a more perfect experience and will stay here again.

Located right on the corner of Bourbon and Orleans Streets makes this hotel an ideal French Quarter hotel. We stayed here our last two visits to NOLA and had nice rooms and good service. We arrived early and the hotel securely kept our luggage until we were able to check in. Although right on Bourbon Street we didn't encounter any noise issue. You are within walking distance of Bourbon, Decatur, Chartres, Royal, Frenchmen Streets and many restaurants, bars, stores, activities. There are virtually hundreds of tours available that some require walking and others have transportation included to their destinations. We never get a car when visiting NOLA. Be cautious of cocktail bar prices. Drinks at the better bars in the Bourbon Street area range from $12-15 EACH; however, only a few blocks away you can get a similar drink for $3-4. (most the bars right on Bourbon Street have costly watered down tasteless drinks) Our weather was warm enough to take advantage of the hotel's centrally located pool. The Bourbon Orleans elevator is located at one end of a somewhat circular layout of rooms so depending on your room location, you may encounter a LONG walk from the elevator to your room. Some say this hotel is haunted and I believe that; our TV had crappy reception on numerous basic broadcast channels and our refrigerator didn't work at all. Hotel prices at the Boubon Orleans vary greatly depending on time of year or the day of the week. If you are flexible, do some research before booking and you can save hundreds! If you are flying in, check out some flight/hotel packages & this could also save you some dollars. We like this place and the staff has always been nice.

Pool
The hotel has a large (by city standards) saltwater pool that's heated year-round; depths range from 3 to 8 feet. The pool is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. During peak visitation periods, snacks and waters are served poolside.

Family Dining

Roux
Roux, the hotel's onsite restaurant, serves breakfast (buffet-style) and dinner daily in a space next to the lobby. When the weather allows, the restaurant's French doors open for sidewalk dining.

While there isn't a separate kids' menu, there are kid-approved options, such as a burger, flatbreads and wings. Of course, you can also find local favorites here -- jambalaya, seafood gumbo, crab cakes and more.

Room Service
In-room dining is also available for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is served 6:30 to 11 a.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to noon on weekends; dinner is served 5:30 to 10 p.m. daily.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is about 30 minutes from the Bourbon Orleans Hotel.

Getting Around
It's easy to walk to any place within the French Quarter from this hotel --especially Jackson Square and Café Du Monde, less than 5 minutes away. You can also take a streetcar to get to attractions further afield, such as the Garden District, known for grand, historic homes, and New Orleans City Park, home to Storyland and Carousel Gardens Amusement Park.

Renting a car? Hotel parking is valet-only, and costs $36 per day for standard cars and $39 per day for oversized vehicles; a 12 percent tax also applies.

Guests 21 and up receive a complimentary drink at Bourbon O, the hotel's swanky jazz club. Live music is offered nightly.
