Overview

This lovely Victorian farmhouse features 14 uniquely decorated suites, all of which include the biggest, softest feather bed you’ve ever seen. That, along with a large in-room whirlpool bath, will ensure a delightful stay for families with very young children who can sleep in a crib, or with older kids who can stay in another room. While each suite is spacious, they only feature one bed per room, so keep that in mind. The onsite restaurant serves up a full complimentary breakfast, including omelets, blueberry pancakes and sausages. It’s also open for lunch and dinner, so you can stay close to your room at the end of a busy day.
Many of Juneau’s top sites are within a short distance of the hotel. The famed Mendenhall Glacier is a mere 5-mile drive to the north, while just a few miles to the south are a large number of boat tour companies that offer whale watching, sailing and glacier adventures. Downtown Juneau, with its museums, historic buildings and quirky shops, is also within easy access. A free shuttle to downtown, the airport and the ferry terminal is provided by the hotel. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home and you don’t need two beds in one room, Grandma’s Feather Bed provides a fun and memorable stay for you and your family.

This was our first overnight land accommodations on a three-week trip covering Alaska and Yukon Territory. (We had arrived on the Alaska state ferry -- a great way to travel, and we had a stateroom.) I was dubious of the name Grandma's Feather Bed when our Homer-based travel agent gave us her suggested itinerary, but she proved to be "right-on", The travel agent, Carol Pripgas. knows exact;ly where to go.

Spending a night at Grandma's for a solo business traveler feels more like being welcomed into a friend's home than a hotel. The service is excellent, and the restaurant offers wonderful choices in a comfortable setting.
