The Awesome View B&B more than lives up to its name, which you’ll realize as you sit on your private deck watching for bald eagles, whales and other wildlife. One of the rooms offers an ideal situation for a family of three, with queen bed and single sleeper sofa. A family of four can also book the second room, which contains a full bed, and have the whole place to themselves. The owners stock your refrigerator with fresh pastries and other goodies for a self-serve breakfast. Other amenities include a microwave, coffeemaker, free Wi-Fi, private entry and cable TV.
The B&B sits next to the water on a quiet, residential street not far from downtown Kodiak, with many shops and restaurants about a half-mile away. There is no shortage of fine dining establishments serving the freshest Alaskan seafood you’ve ever had. Several kid-friendly attractions are close by, including the Kodiak Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center and the Kodiak Fisheries Aquarium. For a full day of hiking and history, Fort Abercrombie State Park is only 4 miles away. The owners of the B&B have lived in Kodiak for decades and are a wealth of information about things you can do during your Alaskan family vacation.

We stayed in the Mermaids Lair. Our room was very clean! The view is AWESOME, the fishing boats and float planes are true Kodiak. We enjoyed waking up and looking at the mermaid decorations, walking to town, leisurely coffees and the museums. The inn keeper was helpful efficient. We will return.

A great place to stay when visiting Kodiak, close to town and on the water with a truly awesome view of the north entrance channel and offshore islands. The “Mermaid’s Lair” provided pleasant accommodations for two and a great feeling of privacy; from the deck it seemed like you had no neighbors. I must question, however, calling the establishment a bed and breakfast. The provisions for our 3-night stay consisted of 6 Keurig pods (4 coffee, 2 tea). Nothing else. Plates and flatware were available for the food we purchased. We enjoyed our stay and would return.
