For a scenic look into Alaska, take a ride aboard the historic White Pass railway. Built during the gold rush of 1898, the railway climbs up to 3,000 feet. The White Pass Summit Excursion passes glaciers, gorges and waterfalls and crosses sky-high tresses in vintage passenger coaches into the rocks of the mountain. The tour takes about four hours and is held twice daily during cruise season. If you pass on this excursion, be sure to get a look at the train’s snowplow, located near the port just before town — it’s nearly 12 feet high!
