Twenty minutes away in Newport News, the Virginia Living Museum is a chance for kids to see live animals in indoor and outdoor exhibits. More than 250 species native to Virginia are showcased in interactive, hands-on exhibits and discovery centers. Creatures include land and sea life, including otters, beavers and red wolves. Special tours are provided on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays for an additional fee. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Memorial Day through Labor Day, then opening at noon on Sundays during remaining months. Closed on Christmas Eve and Day and New Year Day.
