At this museum dedicated to the men and women of the armed forces, visitors can tour the Fletcher-class destroyer USS KIDD (DD-661), known as the “Pirate of the Pacific,” in service during World War II. Guests can take a self-guided walking tour of the ship, exploring every level. Have the kids lay down in the crew’s quarters, or pretend to whip up a meal in the galley. Have them examine the equipment in the combat information center, and see if they can figure out how the sailors relayed important instructions to those located onshore. Other exhibits include an A-7E Corsair Attack Aircraft, a P-40 Warhawk Fighter Plane, an Old Ironsides exhibit featuring a full-size section of the USS Constitution gundeck, the Louisiana Veterans Memorial Plaza, an exhibit highlighting women in the military, and more.
