When it was built in 1914, Kansas City’s Union Station was the largest in the country. Today, a portion of the gorgeous building is devoted to Science City, a fabulous children’s science center. Saturday Family Workshops are a real bargain. Other parts of the train station include model railroads and a full-size collection of historic locomotives. Other activities include an engineering center, an Irish heritage center, live theatre, shops, restaurants and a revolving selection of Smithsonian-sponsored exhibits.
