This free and unique museum has a little bit of everything for the whole family. Located near Queen’s University, there are art collections, Northern Ireland history collections, automobiles, dinosaurs, minerals, rocks and jewelry collections. With more than one million pieces in the entire museum, there is plenty to see!
For teens and parents, there’s an impressive “Game of Thrones” tapestry (more than 262 feet long!) that depicts a scene from every single episode and continues to be added to as the HBO series airs. For younger kids, there is the Discovery Centre, where they can get their little hands on art projects, inspect insects with magnifying glasses and dress up in clothes from another era.
Hours
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Closed Monday.
Things to Know/Bring
The “Game of Thrones” tapestry depicts some violent scenes from the HBO series and is not suitable for those under age 18. Also, the museum is immediately next to the Botanic Gardens, which is a nice add-on to do with the kids after touring the Ulster.
Dining
A cafe with sandwiches, snacks and beverages can be found in the lobby.
