Europe’s oldest wildlife refuge is adjacent to the Sababurg Castle Hotel, known as the Sleeping Beauty Castle. Dating back to 1571, Tierpark Sababurg is a respected wildlife refuge with penguins, a fun aviary, and wolves, bison and deer roaming freely. There’s a terrific falconry show, as well as a children’s playground area and a petting zoo where kids can feed rabbits and goats. This is a lovely place to spend an afternoon in Germany’s countryside. It’s open year-round.
