Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, located in Charlottesville, Virginia, offers an entire day’s worth of activities that are both fun and educational. Tour the former president’s home to explore each room before strolling the magnificent gardens outside. Plan to hike the Trail at Monticello, too — it’s especially beautiful in the fall — and pack a picnic lunch or visit The Cafe at Monticello.
Family Friendly Tours and Day Passes are available on select dates in April, and June through September; they’re also available the first three weekends in October and during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Standard Monticello Day Passes and House Tours are $25 per adult and $8 per child, age 5 to 11 (kids under age 5 are free to enter). Behind the Scenes Tour Passes are $45 per person, but offer exclusive access to all floors of the estate (Monticello Day Passes and House Tours only take guests through the first floor).
Monticello is located about 45 minutes from James Madison’s Montpelier, which is equally popular with tourists.
