The westernmost stop along the Castle Road has a great payoff. Want to visit an opulent baroque palace? Head for the city of Mannheim, just west of Heidelberg. Although much of Schloss Mannheim was destroyed during World War II, this 18th century palace was lovingly and historically restored to its original splendor. Priceless paintings, luxurious tapestries and ornate furnishings are all housed in this palace that hosted leading artists and musicians of its day, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
