The Salthill section of Galway is located about five minutes outside of the city center (10-minute walk) and families will love the beaches here in the summer months. The Galway Bay waters are usually calm as there are jetties that line the beaches and break some of the waves.
When you need a break from the sand, stroll the paved promenade (aka prom) that runs along the beach from Salthill into the city center. Changing rooms and restrooms are located nearby.
Things to Know/Bring
Remember these are Ireland beaches. The sand is more coarse, the water is chilly most of the year, and large rocks also line parts of the area.
Parking
Limited street parking lines the promenade.
