The most iconic building in the city of Barcelona is its fabulous cathedral designed by the famed artist/architect Antoni Gaudi. Translated as a temple to the Sacred Family, this was Gaudi’s masterpiece, a cathedral that would welcome all with open arms and bask them in sunlight instead of the darkened halls typical of European cathedrals. Gaudi claimed Barcelona would be known for this cathedral, and it certainly is. Unfortunately, Gaudi died in an accident before it’s completion, which continues to this day without an end date in sight. This is Barcelona’s most popular destinations for visitors and lines can extend around the block and last for hours; purchase tickets in advance through hotels and visitor’s kiosks to skip the lines and get inside more quickly.
