The only lighthouse along Texas’ Gulf Coast that is open to the public, the Port Isabel Lighthouse is one of 16 lighthouses that protected ships from the barrier islands along the coast, and opened in 1853. Climb the lighthouse’s 50 feet for views of South Padre Island, the Gulf of Mexico and Laguna Madre Bay. A replica of the lighthouse keeper’s cottage is located on the grounds for viewing.
