Situated less than 10 minutes outside of the village, families will find a short walking trail that leads to the Point Cabrillo Light Station. The half mile-long paved trail takes families on an easy walk out to the headlands (also known as coastal cliffs), where the lighthouse, lightkeepers home and a few vacation rentals sit. There is also a second, dirt trail available that is a little longer and runs through the prairie to the lighthouse.
Families can take a self-guided tour of the lightkeeper’s home (situated before the lighthouse) and see how the lightkeeper and his family once lived in the early 1900s. Stop at the former blacksmith shop that now houses the Marine Science Exhibit, which describes the type of sea life that can be found in the area and offers a small saltwater aquarium. Then reach the lighthouse where you can explore the main floor (you can’t climb to the top). Inside the lighthouse, families can learn about the history of the lighthouse through photos and artifacts.
After exploring inside the lighthouse, take some time to walk the headlands and admire the gorgeous cliffside views. The massive cliffs and Pacific Ocean below are impressive to witness. Keep little ones close, however, as the winds can be strong at times and there are no railings or barriers. Families could spend an hour at this location.
Hours

Things to Know/Bring
There is a public restroom located near the lightkeeper’s house. The winds and temperature quickly change from the parking lot to the headlands. Bring a windbreaker or light jacket for once you reach the lighthouse (even on a warm day); you will likely need it to enjoy the view. Dogs are welcome on a leash.
Parking
Parking is situated at the start of the trail.
