Pack a picnic lunch and spend a budget-friendly afternoon hiking, paddling or just hanging out at the playground at this picturesque state park, located 30 minutes outside of Little Rock. If your older kids are up for a challenge, consider hiking to the top of West Summit Trail, where a panoramic view of the Arkansas River Valley will reward you. The half-mile Kingfisher Trail is stroller-friendly. Guided hikes, nature programs for kids and horseback trail rides (helmets recommended for children) are also available. The visitor center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
