Attraction

Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

179th & Antioch Road, Overland Park, KS

The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is ideal for parents and kids. Parents will love the beautiful gardens, while children will love having the space to run and play. The gardens are subdivided into different segments like the Monet Garden (inspired by the artist’s gardens — be sure to view it from the lakeside) and the Erickson Water Garden. Kids young and old will enjoy the Train Garden, which includes model trains running through landscaped grounds, plus an actual EJ&E Caboose #505 built in 1956.

There are several walking/hiking trails, including an International Sculpture Garden Trail that features some spectacular artwork. At the visitors center, be sure to pick up the “nature bingo” and “scavenger hunt” sheets before heading outside. They’re great for keeping the kids involved in their surroundings. The property also features an onsite geocaching trail. Just get a passport at the visitors center; GPS units are available for rent.

Drinks and snacks are available at the Garden Cafe in the visitors center, but you also can bring your own. You can easily spend several hours at this attraction, so plan accordingly.
