At 620 feet high, Multnomah Falls ranks as the granddaddy of local waterfalls, and tops everyone’s list of Oregon sights to see. Besides the overall “wow” factor, you can stretch your legs with a half-mile climb uphill to the falls’ picturesque, historic Benson Bridge. There’s an interpretative area about the falls, a spacious gift shop, a snack stand and sit-down dining with local trout, salmon and produce at the historic Multnomah Falls Lodge. Don’t miss the six other waterfalls all within a nine-mile stretch and easy to reach from the road: Latourelle, Shepperds Dell, Bridal Veil, Wahkeena, Oneonta and Horsetail Falls. Each has its own appeal. At Horsetail, for example, kids can hop onto rocks at the pool below the falls or cool their feet in the water. Look for big juicy blackberries along the parking lot in mid-August.
