The river is “lost” because much of it is underground, twisting through gorges and caverns carved into New Hampshire’s White Mountain landscape. You can find it, and learn a bit about the history of the glaciers that carved its course, along a series of boardwalks that follow its hidden path. Along the way, caverns and rock formations with names like Thor’s Cauldron and the Lemon Squeezer offer irresistible attractions to kids with a hankering to explore.
