Another of the islands in the Guadeloupe archipelago, La Desirade is one of the more secluded. The island has a lot of interesting history, from occupation by early indigenous Americans, to an island base for pirates, to a leper colony (which existed as late as 1958). Today, it is home to two festivals — the Sailors’ Commemorative Ceremony and the Goat Festival — and is renowned for its fresh seafood and pristine nature.
