Located about 45 minutes outside of Lafayette on Avery Island (next to the Tabasco Factory), these gardens offer a diverse collection of plants, trees and wildlife. Families can drive through the gardens, making stops along the way, or take a hike and spend the whole day enjoying the scenery. There are numerous areas throughout the 170-acre gardens for families to have a picnic, play a game of tag or take photos. In season, visitors will see colorful azaleas, camellias and bamboo, as well as alligators, deer and thousands of white egrets that nest in Bird City. The kids will love stopping off to climb the stone steps to see Buddha, a large statue that sits atop a stone shine and overlooks a pond. Families can spend an hour or the whole day here. It’s a great spot to visit along with the Tabasco Factory.
