Imposing and impressive, this 210-foot tall Neoclassical memorial was built in 1919 as a tribute to World War I veterans. The main floor includes free museum filled with exhibits and artifacts from all the wars, including World War I gas masks and military rations, a submarine periscope, Korean War helicopter and a Navy missile. Don’t miss a walk to the Shrine Room, the memorial’s moving centerpiece built to symbolize peace. The memorial anchors Indiana’s War Memorial Plaza Historic District, which comprises three parks, two museums and multiple memorials, fountains and statues.
