Take a detour off the start of the Park Loop Road to Acadia’s visitor center, a well-stocked building with a wealth of information to help you make the best of the park. A 15-minute audiovisual program helps orient visitors to the human and natural of the region, while a 3-D topographical map brings alive the area’s unique geology. While you are there, be sure to pick up a copy of the Beaver Log, a newspaper while details various nature programs led by rangers and kid’s programs for both young children and teenagers. The visitors center is open from mid-April to the end of October (though the park is open all year).
