For a half-day jaunt to explore another cool natural attraction on the island, our family recommends Horne Lake Caves in Horne Lake Cave Provincial Park — that is, if you don’t get claustrophobic. The park has a couple of caves open for exploring on your own, but you might try a 90-minute Family Cavern Tour that gives you an informative overview of Riverbend Cave and its stalactites and stalagmites. The tour included trail hiking to get there and some dark, clammy caving that required helmets, lights and good footwear (sandals won’t cut it). For adventurous families with teens, there’s a tour that includes rappelling on ropes.
